After 3 weeks of action, we're finally starting to get a good picture of what the CFL will look like over the course of 2019. Since Saskatchewan failed to win by as much as 53, as I said they would be expected to in my last post, my computer has to try to reconcile that and other previous results. In spite of this, the sum of the squared errors between expected and actual results increases this week by only a little more than 100.
With that, here are the ratings I'll use to predict the coming week's games.
After two underwhelming performances, Calgary has finally been unseated from the top, while Hamilton passes them as a much-deserving front-runner, at least for the East Division. Meanwhile, Toronto rises a bit but still trails the pack by a considerable amount.
Here's how the ratings have changed from week to week.
So we have a group of six teams bundled at the top. Not surprisingly, these are the same six teams projected to sit at the top of the standings when the season finishes.
While we still see the Roughriders projected to win the West by a slim margin, despite being the fourth-highest rated team in the division, the Tiger-Cats have taken the place of the Redblacks atop the East. Once again, the ceilings and floors of the West teams gives us a median closer to what we'd expect from the team ratings.
But again, I use the "PROJECTED FINAL" records to make my postseason projections, which look like this.
