Freddy's CFL Ratings: 2019 Week 16

Even though we have games coming up today and tomorrow, I'd like to focus on two games that are set for next week. They might not have the same impact depending on how things go this weekend, but I'd like to get into them a bit before the opportunity passes.

Those games are the Roughriders at Stampeders next Friday, and the Lions at Eskimos next Saturday.

The impact of SSK @ CGY largely depends on what goes on this week in Regina. There, the Riders will finish up their three-game season series with the Blue Bombers. The teams split the first two games, with both home teams winning.

Right now, the Riders are the underdogs in both games. That makes them the away team in the West semifinal. These two games could be the difference between that and hosting the West final.

Out of the three current worst teams, BC has probably the best chance to make the playoffs. Their path runs through Edmonton. Because of a week 5 loss to the Esks in Vancouver, tying for fourth in the West isn't good enough. The Lions must win this game to have a chance to get in. Winning out would be even better.

As I noted last time, the Lions are on the rise. If I weighted my ratings toward recent results, they might even be in the top six teams. For now, they'll have to settle for seventh, but that's not set just yet. They still have a chance to turn things around.

No changes to the playoff this week, but none of the seeds are set yet. Not even the mighty Tiger-Cats are locked into the places I have these teams right now.
