Bracketology 2019: Preseason

Following the bowl projections for the FBS, the next thing to get into is the FCS tournament used to determine a national champion.

Once again, by using preseason Sagarin ratings, I've arrived at projected win-loss totals for all 126 FCS teams. 24 of them will be selected to play in a tournament; the top 8 will receive first-round byes. Ten conferences in the FCS send their champions, and the fourteen remaining spots are filled by at-large teams.

The Ivy League does not send a team to any postseason games. The MEAC and SWAC have recently partnered to send their champions to the Celebration Bowl, which I'll be putting up with Bracketology posts instead of the Bowl Projections because it's FCS. Additionally, teams from the MEAC may also be selected for the tournament if they do not win the conference and are determined to be good enough; the SWAC, however, does not allow this for their teams.

In addition to filling in the 24 teams I believe should be selected for the tournament, my bracket is programmed to select projected winners for games that have yet to be played.

You'll also see a Bubble containing the eight best teams which would not be selected for the tournament. I do this because of the relatively small number of teams chosen for the postseason compared to the FBS, and to acknowledge the success of teams on the edge.

Of course, teams will come and go from both sets of projections, but I hope I'm doing the best I can to ensure that we get a good picture of the FBS and the FCS by the end of the season. The journey, in this case, is just as important as our destination.
