FredRank NFL: 2019 Week 5

Today on FredRank NFL: The NFC is STACKED.

Well, or is it?

Right now, 11 of the top 16 teams are from the NFC, and a 12th, the Detroit Lions, aren't much lower than two top 5 AFC teams in the Buffalo Bills and Oakland Raiders.

The NFC also carries the edge in current win percentage, .551 to .449. By the end of the regular season, I see the gap closing, but I have the NFC still ahead at .523.

But will it last? When teams in the NFC mostly play each other, and some of those good teams are going to have to lose, it probably won't completely last. For teams like the Seahawks and Saints, based on who they've played so far and how the games have turned out, it looks to my computer that they'll be the ones who end up sliding down to 8-8 or so.

But if you think, as I'm inclined to believe, that Russell Wilson will continue his MVP-level play, feel free to disagree. I definitely believe their upcoming game with the Browns could be a turning point for their projections.

On the other end, the Steelers are the best current example of a team projected to turn around from a bad start and make the playoffs. Despite an average FredRank and a 1-4 record, they'd be my pick for the 4 seed if I had to make those calls now.

This weekend's matchup with the Chargers would be a defining game for the season if it weren't for the Steelers being on their third quarterback of the year. On the other hand, it could change the trajectory of the season for the Chargers, currently projected to lose out.

Oh, and the Dolphins are bad.
