FCS FredRank and Bracketology: 2019 Week 12

It’s the last week of the regular season! Time to get excited about who’s getting into the 24-team championship tournament.

With Dartmouth’s upset loss to Cornell, we no longer need to worry about any undefeated Ivy League team being the best at the end of the year. It looks like the title is all North Dakota State’s for the taking, but anything could happen! Even with a loss to Southern Illinois this weekend, they’re almost certainly a lock for a top 2 seed in the playoff.

After that, it’s mostly MVFC and Big Sky teams in the top spots, which makes it a little complicated to place teams. With so many of the top teams being relatively more west of the rest of the field, some first-round winners may have to travel far for their next games. It’s not something I want to happen, but it just might end up being the case this year.

Eastern Washington could very well end up tying for the Big Sky title, and that’s how they edge out Southern Illinois for the final at-large bid in my projection.
