Freddy's CFL Ratings: 2019 Week 17

After a big loss to the BC Lions in week 17, the Toronto Argonauts are officially eliminated from playoff contention. With three teams still fighting for the final two spots, what does this mean?

Recall that two of the Argos' final games are at home against the Ottawa REDBLACKS, who are technically still contending for the postseason. I believe, in spite of the new ratings, that the Argos will play spoiler to the REDBLACKS, who would need to win out in order to have any hope of preventing a crossover from the West.

That would leave the Lions and the Edmonton Eskimos as the final two teams on the bubble. Each of the two has three games left, including one against each other this Saturday night in Edmonton.

Aside from the Alouettes-Blue Bombers game this weekend, all remaining games are division games. This isn't as meaningful in the East, where the Hamilton Tiger-Cats need just one more win to clinch the top seed.

But in the West, the Roughriders are primed for a run to the top. And their three final games are, in order, at Lions, at Eskimos, vs Eskimos.

If neither of those teams can stop the Riders, it might just come down to the Eskimos being in the better position to begin with.

So for now, this is how the playoff picture looks. But four weeks of games means there's plenty that can change.
