FredRank NFL: 2019 Week 2

While this week's ratings will be presented largely without commentary, there is one team I'd like to focus on in the little bit I'll say: the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Despite ranking at 20th with a sub-.5000 FredRank and a projected 8-8 record, behind the New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons, I have the Bucs winning the NFC South. Why is that? There's a couple components to it.

The results of the first two weeks require me to make some adjustments, and while I try not to overreact, it might seem that saying "no one in this division will get to 9 wins" is an overreaction when it comes so early in the year. But that's how things have shaped up in the NFC South, where the Bucs would own the tiebreaker over the Falcons based on divisional record.

These teams are so close to one another that it would make more sense to have them all split their divisional games and all finish at 3-3. However, Tampa Bay already won in Carolina this past week.

The good news for the Panthers is that they don't have to play in Tampa Bay this year: their week 6 matchup is in London. If they can get it together by then and take that game from the Bucs, that would seem to open things up for the Falcons, more so than any other team in the division. But we'll have to see what else gets shaken up! Anything can happen.
